TOUR DETAILS

50% paved roads 50% gravel, dirt, mud and varied with good highways to small sealed back roads with potholes. Many curves, Andean Mountain passes and extreme scenic routes. For riders with EXPERT off-road and touring skills, good curving skills, ability to stay calm in hectic traffic and the ability to ride longer sections of gravel and dirt roads, and parts on muddy tracks. We stay in mid-range hotels. We always opt for the best option available – clean, safe and practical location. Temperatures can vary between 12 to 40°C (53.6 F to 104°F). Temperatures can drop for a short period going over the mountains passes. It is recommended to ride with ventilated riding gear. A pull over rain suite is a good idea to carry against mountain temperatures and possible short rain showers that can occur year round.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Fly-in to Cali. Motolombia staff pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel. Depending on what time in the day you arrive, we will meet to sort out paperwork and prep the bikes. A group briefing meeting will be arranged once the last rider has arrived.

DAY 2

Cali to Pijao – We leave Cali early to make the most of the first riding day. As we make our way north in western mountain range of the Andes we stop at Lake Calima. From here we make our way back into the Cauca valley and ride along sugar plantations until we reach the coffee region. We spend the night in the tiny coffee grower village of Pijao.

DAY 3

Pijao to Villa Vieja – After breakfast we get right out on the dirt. The mission is to cross the central Andean mountain range at Ronce Valle and reach tje Magdalena river on the other side. From here we head south along the river to Ville Vieja on the border of the Tatacoa desert.

DAY 4

Villa Vieja La Macarena – Villa Vieja La Macarena – As we leave Ville Vieja we will traverse the tiny Tatacoa desert and head into the Eastern Andean mountain range. It a long day with lots of dirt in both desert and mountains and finally in the Amazon basin. But the change in scenery in one day is mind blowing. We arrive in La Macarena late in time for shower and dinner.

DAY 5

Rest-day Caño Cristales – Is a day with-out riding, but not lacking adventure as we cross the river in canoes to reach Caño Cristales national park aka the world most beautiful river or the river of 7 colors. We spend the day swimming and exploring the amazing area with waterfalls and small ponds and the main river in this spectacular natural wonder.

DAY 6

La Macarena to Florencia – Time to get back on the bikes and eat some more dirt. We ride the eastern plains of the Amazon basin and go through old FARC stronghold area. Finally after many year this route is possible to do and we are some of the first to do it. We will spend the night in Florencia right on the edge between Amazon and Andes.

DAY 7

Florencia to San Agustin – After breakfast in Florencia we start climbing right up into the cloud forest of the Eastern mountain range of the Andes. The destination is San Agustin where we find time to visit the archaeological park with its Easter island like sculptors and the other Pre-Colombian artefacts.

DAY 8

San Agustin to Cali – From San Agustin we have a fairly long ride back to Cali. We must first cross the central Andean mountain range on a dirt pass and then we stop for lunch in the beautiful colonial capital city Popayan. From there is north back to the Salsa capital of the world Santiago de Cali for our last night on the tour.

DAY 9

Departure from Cali – Motolombia staff will take you to the airport in time for your flight. If you wish to stay longer we are happy to help you make arrangements. We strongly suggest visiting Cartagena for a day or two before or after the Motorcycle trip.
