50% paved roads 50% gravel, dirt, mud and varied with good highways to small sealed back roads with potholes. Many curves, Andean Mountain passes and extreme scenic routes. For riders with off-road skills, good curving skills, ability to stay calm in hectic traffic and the ability to ride longer sections of gravel and dirt roads, and parts on muddy tracks. We stay in mid-range hotels. We always opt for the best option available – clean, safe and practical location. Temperatures can vary between 12 to 40°C (53.6 F to 104°F). Temperatures can drop for a short period going over the mountains passes. It is recommended to ride with ventilated riding gear. A pull over rain suite is a good idea to carry against mountain temperatures and possible short rain showers that can occur year round.

Fun Factor

Day 1: Fly-in to Cali. Motolombia staff pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel. Depending on what time in the day you arrive, we will meet to sort out paperwork and prep the bikes. A group briefing meeting will be arranged once the last rider has arrived.

Day 2: Cali to Silvia – After breakfast we get ready to ride south through the Cauca valley. As we exit the south of Cali we soon after turn off the highway and enter into the mountains passing by Toribio, a village that was true by conflict in the past as this was a strong hold for drug producers and the guerrilla movement. We continue the ride down though the mountains to our first night stop in Guambiano Indian tribe village Silvia.

Day 3: Silvia to Tierradentro – From Silvia with head over the central Andean mountain range on a dirt pass through Totoro to Inza. We stay near the amazing Indiana Jones adventure like grave tunnels in San Adres. We will have time to do the hike up the mountain to visit the tunnels in the Tierradentro national park with a local guide.

Day 4: Tierradentro to San Agustin – After visiting the tiny, but interesting museum of archaeology. We head out on the dirt again making our way over the La Argentina pass through Pitalito and arriving in San Agustin in time to visit the fantastic archaeological park. around 500 Easter Island type sculptors have been found in the area and we get to see many of them. We stay in the village of San Agustin, an old typical colonial style village.

Day 5: San Agustin to Popayan – An option to do a white water rafting trip or a horse back ride in the morning is available and before noon we leave San Agustin to ride back across the central Andes range on a different dirt pass. If the wether is up high is on our side we’ll get a peak at the Purace volcano and a possible dip in the hot spring of Coconuco. We spend the night in beautiful colonial capital city Popayan.

Day 6: Popayan to Cali – Popayan to Cali – After enjoying a nice breakfast and strolling the cobblestone street of Popayan we start our last day of riding back north towards Cali. We pass by the La Salvajina artificial lake and dam on an extremely scenic route before reaching the Salsa capital of the world Santiago de Cali for our last night.

Day 7: Fly-out from Cali – Motolombia staff will take you to the airport in time for your flight. If you wish to stay longer we are happy to help you make arrangements. We strongly suggest visiting Cartagena for a day or two before or after the Motorcycle trip.
