95% pavement, up to 5% on gravel driveways or possible road construction detours. Hundreds of curves and extremely scenic well maintained roads. Rookie to expert riders and couples are very welcome on this tour. We stay in mid- & high-range hotels. We always opt for the best option available – clean, safe and practical location. Temperatures can vary between 12 to 40°C (53.6 F to 104°F). Temperatures can drop for a short period going over the mountains passes. It is recommended to ride with ventilated riding gear. A pull over rain suite is a good idea to carry against mountain temperatures and possible short rain showers that can occur year round.
Day 1: Fly-in to Cartagena. Motolombia staff pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel. Depending on what time in the day you arrive, we will meet to sort out paperwork and prep the bikes. A group briefing meeting will be arranged once the last rider has arrived.
Day 2: Cartagena to Caucasia – We start the first leg of the tour by heading straight south through rolling hills and cattle farm land before we slowly get into the Andes mountains. We spend the night in Caucasia, a little town in cattle country.
Day 3: Caucasia to Medellin – From Caucasia we make our way over the mountains surrounding Medellin and descend into the hectic multi-million populated city. We stay in the Zona Rosa, El Poblado, in a 5-star hotel close to the nightlife and good restaurants.
Day 4: Medellin to Salento – We head out of Medellin early after a great breakfast buffet and climb up over the edge of the bowl Medellin city is build in. The ride down to the Cauca River is incredible and as we make our way back into the coffee region the weather also gets warmer. We will spend the night in the beautiful grower village of Salento.
Day 5: Rest day Salento – On our first non-riding day we jump on a Willy’s jeep to explore the area around this wonderfully located rural village. We visit the beautiful Cocora Valley and a working coffee farm to see what it takes to make a cup of coffee. The village it self is nice for an evening stroll.
Day 6: Salento to Popayan – Leaving Salento we ride into the Cauca River valley and ride along sugar cane plantations on beautiful roads. We stop for lunch near Cali the Salsa capital of the world before entering the Andes mountains again going further south. Our stop for the night is in Popayan, a stunning old colonial white washed capital city. We wander around the city square to soak up history before dinner.
Day 7: Popayan to Pasto – We continue our trip south through super scenic gorges and canyons in the south of Colombia. Thousands of tight curves on narrow mountain roads awaits. We spend the night in the last big city in Colombia Pasto. Another city with interesting colonial architecture and history. Our last night in Colombia is spend in a small coy hotel near the city square.
Day 8: Pasto to Otavalo (border crossing) – In the morning after breakfast we visit La Lajas, a cathedral built across a canyon and then its time to do border crossing. We usually are able to cross in a matter of a couple hours after inspection of bikes and personal papers. Then it’s a short ride to Otavalo known for the indigenous handcraft market.
Day 9: Otavalo to Tena – South of Otavalo we cross the Equator and stop at the monument. Then we head east over the Andes pass before dropping into the Amazon basis. We stay near near Tena where we will get a little tas of the real Amazon jungle.

Day 11: Rest-day Baños – Rest-day Motolombia style just means activities off the bikes. In Baños we go visit the Devil’s waterfall and for those who are daredevils there are zip lines, huge swings and other action sports that will get your blood pumping. You are of course also welcome to take some down time to get rested before we get back on the road.
Day 12: Baños to Quevedo – When we leave Baños we head back up over the Andes range and do a lunch stop at the beautiful Quilotoa crater lake. Tight curves and narrow roads are again on the program and our destination this night is Quevedo.
