70% paved roads 30% gravel, dirt, mud and varied with good highways to small sealed back roads with potholes. Many curves, Andean Mountain passes and extreme scenic routes. For riders with good touring skills, good curving skills, ability to stay calm in hectic traffic and the ability to ride sections of gravel and dirt roads. We stay in mid-range hotels. We always opt for the best option available – clean, safe and practical location. Temperatures can vary between 12 to 40°C (53.6 F to 104°F). Temperatures can drop for a short period going over the mountains passes. It is recommended to ride with ventilated riding gear. A pull over rain suite is a good idea to carry against mountain temperatures and possible short rain showers that can occur year round.








Fun Factor


Day 1: Fly-in to Cali. Motolombia staff pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel. Depending on what time in the day you arrive, we will meet to sort out paperwork and prep the bikes. A group briefing meeting will be arranged once the last rider has arrived.

Day 2: Cali to Popayan – After breakfast we get right on the bikes and head south. We go past the artificial lake and dam La Salvajina, a beautiful scenic route before getting into the higher mountains and visiting Guambiano Indian village Silvia. Our stop for the night is the beautiful colonial capital Popayan.

Day 3: Popayan to San Agustin – From the white walled city of Popayan we start crossing the central Andean mountain range to San Agustin on a dirt pass. On the way we stop at the hot spring in Coconuco and pass by the volcano Purace. If we are lucky with the clouds we might see the snow capped peak.

Day 4: Rest-day San Agustin – In San Agustin we have a day of the bikes to enjoy the interesting area. We will visit the archaeological park with its Easter Island like sculptors. About 500 have been found in the area. In the afternoon we can either do a horseback ride out to see more ancient artefacts or arrange a white water rafting trip. A great place to also just wonder around the old colonial village and relax.

Day 5: San Agustin to Pasto – From San Agustin we have a long ride south to Mocoa right on the edge between the Andes and the Amazon basin. Here we turn sharp west and start the famous Trampoline of Death road or Trampoline of the Devil. A dirt pass leading back over the central Andes range to Pasto. Incredible views from cliff hanger narrow tracks will requiere us to be on our best game all day.

Day 6: Pasto to Otavalo (border crossing) – In the morning after breakfast we visit La Lajas, a cathedral built across a canyon and then its time to do border crossing. We usually are able to cross in a matter of a couple hours after inspection of bikes and personal papers. Then it’s a short ride to Otavalo known for the indigenous handcraft market.

Day 7: Otavalo to Tena – South of Otavalo we cross the Equator and stop at the monument. Then we head east over the Andes pass before dropping into the Amazon basis. We stay near near Tena where we will get a little tas of the real Amazon jungle.

Day 8: Tena to Baños – In the morning we will go explore the Amazon in a small boat trip. And then we get back on the bikes. Form Tena it’s a short drive to the adventure capital of Ecuador Baños. We spend the night walking in the shadow of the snow capped volcanos and dining in one of the good restaurants in town.

Day 9: Rest-day in Baños – rest day Motolombia style just means activities off the bikes. In Baños we go visit the Devil’s waterfall and for those who are daredevils there are zip lines, huge swings and other action sports that will get your blood pumping. You are of course also welcome to take some down time to get rested before we get back on the road.

Day 10: Baños to Quevedo – When we leave Baños we head back up over the Andes range and do a lunch stop at the beautiful Quilotoa crater lake. Tight curves and narrow roads are again on the program and our destination this night is Quevedo.

Day 11: Quevedo to Manta – From Quevedo we ride out of the Andes range towards the coast and will end up on the Pacific coast of Ecuador. Here will will have time to enjoy a dip in the ocean before dinner.

Day 12: Rest-day: Manta – As Manta is right on the Ocean a trip to the local fish market is an interesting thing to do. All types of fish and other sea creatures are on display. We will also have beach time and time to relax and charge up the batteries before the last long stint north. 

Day 13: Manta to Quito – We leave the coast and start climbing slowly but surely back up the Andes mountain range again. We reach Quito in time to go visit the historic city center in the afternoon and get a good feel for the wonderful Ecuadorian capital.

Day 14: Quito to Pasto (Border crossing) – As we return north to Colombia we stop at a different Equator monument and the interesting cemetery in Tulcan on the Ecuadorian side of the border. After a quick border crossing (minimum paperwork going back) we will spend another night in Pasto. This time with a little more time to go enjoy the colonial part of town and soak up some history.

Day 15: Pasto to Cali – Our last day of riding will not dissappoint. Thousands of tight curves through gorges and canyons in Southern Colombian Andes. It’s a full day of riding to get back to the Salsa Capital fo the world Santiago de Cali for a well deserved shower and last supper.

Day 16: Fly-out from Cali – Motolombia staff will take you to the airport in time for your flight. If you wish to stay longer we are happy to help you make arrangements. We strongly suggest visiting Cartagena for a day or two before or after the Motorcycle trip.
